Barcelona are considering summer move for versatile Juventus full-back – Report | OneFootball

FC Barcelona have had their fair share of issues in the full-back region. Until they signed Joao Cancelo on loan in January, they were extremely short of quality depth on either flank but the Portuguese international has somewhat addressed that issue.

Thus, it is understandable that their search for more reliable depth at full-back is clearly not slowing down. With the squad exposed whenever injuries hit the wide defensive areas, the club are now being linked with another option who looks attractive mainly because he can solve more than one problem at once.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are following Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso as they assess possible additions for the summer. The 26-year-old is valued for his versatility, with the ability to play on both sides of the back line.

That profile makes obvious sense from a Barca point of view. Joao Cancelo’s situation beyond this season is still unresolved, while Hector Fort could return after his loan at Elche. At the same time, Gerard Martin’s shift toward left-sided centre-back has reduced the number of natural full-backs in the first-team picture.

The current injury situation only underlines the issue. Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde are both sidelined with muscular injuries, leaving Barcelona in a delicate position the club want to avoid repeating next season.

Cambiaso is being presented as a serious, proven option rather than a speculative name. His numbers this season back up that reputation. The full-back has contributed three goals and four assists in 39 matches for Juventus, and plays mainly on the left but also on the right.

There is an obvious catch, though. Cambiaso is under contract at Juventus until 2029, and the report adds that he is valued at around €30million. Manchester City were also interested last summer before moving instead for Rayan Ait Nouri.

While there is nothing that screams out and makes this an obvious signing, Cambiaso is a good option to have from a Barcelona perspective. However, the priority should be to try to sign Cancelo back, considering exactly what he can offer. It remains to be seen how Deco goes about handling this situation in the upcoming transfer window.
