In a recent report, journalist Mark Brus stated that Barcelona are facing tough competition for Sporting CP midfielder Morten Hjulmand this summer. It has been revealed that the Catalan club would have to compete with Inter Milan, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in the race to land the Danish talent this off-season.
The 26-year-old put in a run of solid performances at the heart of Sporting’s midfield in the previous campaign. Hjulmand netted three goals and secured two assists in 47 appearances for the Portuguese outfit last season in various competitions.
The Danish talent anchored the midfield well as he made 54 tackles, 20 blocks and 27 interceptions in Liga Portugal. He was even accurate when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 90% in the Portuguese top flight (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at Sporting will run out in the summer of 2028. Thus, Barcelona would have to launch a big offer if they want to lure Hjulmand to the Nou Camp in this transfer window.

Hjulmand is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears his lines when required and is an accurate passer of the ball.
The Danish sensation can even contribute by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also operate as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.
Hjulmand would bring more bite and steel to Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick’s midfield department. He has what it takes to compete for a regular first-team place at the Nou Camp next season. However, only time will tell whether the Danish midfield ace can maintain his good form in La Liga.
At 26, Hjulmand has his best years ahead of him which makes him a great option for the Catalan club to consider this off-season. He might even help Barca compete across all fronts over the next few years. Therefore, Flick should focus on going all out to bring him on board soon.
