FC Barcelona need to address their striker situation in the summer and this has been well-documented for quite some time now. While everyone expected Robert Lewandowski to leave and another striker to come in, it feels like the Catalan club are planning to go another way.
Ferran Torres could be one of the notable names in Barcelona’s summer market, with the club reportedly open to offers as they reshape the attack. According to ESPN, Barcelona are prepared to listen to bids for Ferran this summer while also exploring the arrival of up to two forwards.
The report says the club would prefer to move him on now rather than Robert Lewandowski, mainly because Ferran is under contract only until 2027 and this is viewed as the last summer in which Barca can still command a meaningful fee without drifting closer to a weaker negotiating position.
This is not just about form, even if Ferran’s recent dip has clearly not helped. It is also about market logic. Barca signed him for over €50 million, and with no renewal talks yet, selling him on for a transfer fee might make a lot of sense.
Julian Alvarez is among the striker targets, while Barcelona are also looking for ways to keep Marcus Rashford, either by lowering the €30 million purchase option or extending his loan. The same report says the club’s ideal scenario would be Alvarez as starting striker next season and Lewandowski as backup, which would leave Ferran with even fewer minutes.
Ferran has contributed 16 goals in 40 matches this season, which is a respectable output, but his poor form in recent weeks has been a cause of concern. Barcelona will not want a striker who blows hot and cold through the course of a season.
Flick has placed a lot of trust in the 26-year-old Spaniard but if it means sacrificing him to sign a striker with much higher pedigree, that brave call has to be taken. The next few months could go a long way in shaping Ferran’s future and let’s wait and see how things play out.
