La Liga giants Barcelona have this week received the backing of a former member of the club’s board regarding the signing of Marcus Rashford.
This, of course, comes after the Blaugrana at last tied up a long-awaited winger signing late last month.
Following months of rampant speculation, Deco and co. closed an agreement with their Manchester United counterparts, to bring in Marcus Rashford on a season-long loan.
And yet, had things played out just a little differently on the market this summer, then Rashford’s signing for Barcelona would have been all but ruled out.
The Catalans’ first-choice attacking target was Athletic Club star Nico Williams, who pulled the rug on the Camp Nou board at the last minute with an agreement on the personal terms of a contract already in place.
As alluded to above, though, one individual of the opinion that as much marked something of a blessing in digsuise for the Blaugrana is ex-club president Joan Gaspart.
Speaking during an interview with ‘El 10 del Barça’, as cited by Diario Sport, Gaspart was drawn on the Rashford-Nico saga.
And the Spaniard did not hesitate in revealing his opinion that:
“Well, first of all, for me Marcus Rashford is better than Nico, from here on I don’t care what (Iñaki Williams) might say. The player has used us in a good way, he’s gotten a good contract, I’m happy for him. I don’t understand Athletic’s displeasure and anger, I’ve signed many important players from Bilbao like Zubizarreta and I’ve always gotten along well with the president.”
