Not too long ago, Barcelona were surprisingly linked with a move for Ivan Perisic.

The veteran winger emerged as an option for Barça this summer, on account of his prolific performances at PSV Eindhoven as well as his relationship with Hansi Flick.

Flick and Perisic worked together during their time at Bayern Munich, and the Barcelona coach knows the Croatian quite well. So much so, Flick had backed him as a potential candidate to shore up Barcelona’s attack this summer.

Perisic set for a renewal at PSV

However, Fabrizio Romano has now ruled out a Barcelona move for Ivan Perisic this summer.

In a recent update, the transfer expert has confirmed that the former Bayern Munich winger is set to sign a two-year contract extension at PSV Eindhoven.

The attacker has accepted the conditions for a two-year deal; only final details are left to be clarified and sealed before he can sign the new deal.

The renewal will see Perisic remain at PSV until the age of 38 – a trust quite similar to what Barcelona have with Robert Lewandowski, who will continue to front-line the attack next season.

As for Barcelona, Romano adds that while the Catalans were indeed interested in Perisic at one point, it appears the club are prioritising a move for Nico Williams.

The Athletic Club winger has emerged as the top target for the Blaugrana this summer, with the majority of the Barcelona dressing room determined to play with him next season.

Barcelona reportedly have a deal in place with Nico, but an agreement with Athletic Club could be tricky, even though the club only need to pay the player’s €62 million release clause.

Athletic Club are determined to do everything they can to make sure the deal does not happen and have even reached out to La Liga, asking the authorities to force Barcelona to prove their economic status before making a move for the attacker.
