Barcelona and Bayern Munich have both been linked with a move for Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.

The 22-year-old was in action for the Netherlands during Nations League quarter-final matches against Spain, playing the entirety of both legs but suffering heartbreak as his side were knocked out on penalties - although he did deny Barcelona star Lamine Yamal from the spot.

Verbruggen has now racked up 20 appearances with the Dutch national team following his impressive ascent with Brighton, where he has become the undisputed number one after a tame start to life on the south coast.

Such has been the eye-catching nature of the young stopper's rise, Barcelona took the opportunity to watch Verbruggen over the international period, according to Spanish publication SPORT.

They reveal the former Anderlecht goalkeeper has long been admired by La Blaugrana, who view him as one of the most promising in his position in world football. Lille's Lucas Chevalier and Nice's Marcin Bulka are others who appear on Barcelona's wishlist.

The Catalan giants may not pursue Verbruggen in the upcoming transfer window as they are content with their current goalkeeping situation. Marc-Andre ter Stegen will return from injury next season and Wojciech Szczesny, who has sparkled recently after a dismal start in Barcelona colours, is expected to sign a one-year contract extension.

If Barcelona wait too long to pounce, they could lose out to Bayern Munich. The Telegraph claim that the German giants are reading themselves to make a bid for Verbruggen, who is viewed as the long-term successor to Manuel Neuer. Brighton value their Dutch shot-stopper at £60m, which would represent a healthy profit on the £16.3m they paid for him just two years ago.
