It has become well-established by now that FC Barcelona intend to sign a new centre-forward in the summer and that Julian Alvarez happens to be their main target.
The Atletico Madrid striker is being seen as the ideal fit for the club’s project by the Catalans’ sporting management, led by director Deco.
However, Los Rojiblancos’ refusal to let go of the Argentine international without a fight is bound to make things complicated for Barça.
But, according to journalist Jose Alvarez on El Chiringuito TV, Barcelona strongly believe that Alvarez wants to join them in the summer transfer window.
As such, the Blaugrana are willing to let him make the first move as it could make negotiating with Atletico Madrid easier down the road.

Furthermore, the journalist states that the belief at Barça is that a transfer for Alvarez could cost only around €80 million – which is far lower than the figures that have been mentioned in the media so far.
In fact, it would only be slightly higher than the €75 million initial fee that Atletico paid to Manchester City to sign the Argentine back in 2024.
Considering that he is contracted with the Colchoneros until 2030, the claim of a potential transfer fee of €80 million does seem dubious unless there is a possibility of a player being involved in a part-exchange deal.
So, for now, the report should be taken with a pinch of salt. But what is clear is that Barcelona see Alvarez as a key target and are ready to be patient for him to make the first move.
