Barcelona’s local fanbase was of course dealt something of a blow earlier today.

This came upon confirmation coming to the fore that the Blaugrana’s scheduled return to the Spotify Camp Nou for next month’s Joan Gamper Trophy match has been cancelled.

As much comes owing to a failure to negotiate the necessary permits in time.

The problems, however, do not end there…

As revealed by Sport, concerns are already spreading behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital that the Camp Nou may not be ready for Barca’s first planned home fixture of the upcoming La Liga campaign, either.

In the case of this proving the case, the Catalans would be forced to return to Montjuïc.

Should the ground not be ready for Barcelona’s opening Champions League outing of 2025/26, then Montjuïc would be utilised for the entirety of the group stage campaign.

And as per a report from Sport:

‘There are voices at the club that say that if the first half of the season must be played away from the Spotify Camp Nou, it is better to do it throughout the season so that the works progress at a better pace.’

It is also noted, however, that others are in disagreement with such a viewpoint, ‘in favour of returning to the Barça temple as soon as possible’.
