With the summer transfer window looming, FC Barcelona are gearing up to bolster their squad and plug gaps at the heart of their defence.
The Catalan giants have been linked with several big-name signings, but Alessandro Bastoni remains the player they most desire. Until recently, his price tag at Inter Milan put the move out of reach, yet reports now suggest a window of opportunity may be opening.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter Milan are seriously considering selling Bastoni. The Italian centre-back, once seen as untouchable and a cornerstone of Inter’s defence, has faced a turbulent season marked by inconsistent performances and a controversial incident in the Inter-Juventus match.
The defender simulated a foul that led to Kalulu being unjustly sent off, drawing widespread criticism and ridicule from fans.
The intense pressure surrounding him and the need to generate funds to strengthen the weak areas of the squad have reportedly influenced Inter’s decision to make him available for transfer.
Bastoni’s market value was initially estimated at around €80 million, with Inter reportedly open to offers near €70 million. However, the report from La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests the Italian club could now accept just over €50 million plus potential add-ons, creating an attractive opportunity for Barcelona.
The player is said to prioritise a move to the Catalan side over other suitors, including Liverpool, strengthening Barcelona’s negotiating position.
Barcelona’s sporting director Deco previously met with Bastoni’s agent Tullio Tinti, and discussions were positive. The player remains open to joining the Blaugranes, and with a contract at Inter until 2028 and a salary that fits within Barcelona’s budget, the deal is increasingly seen as achievable.
For Barcelona, this is not yet an advanced operation, but it is certainly an intriguing one. If Inter are truly willing to listen and Bastoni’s fee has indeed fallen to around €50 million, then this is a no-brainer. Let’s wait and see how things play out.
