FC Barcelona has many players who are currently injured but they have issues beyond that. The recent loss to CA Osasuna clearly showcased the team’s limitations, but that is not all they must worry about. Moving forward, some Barcelona players will also have their contracts left to be negotiated as well.

One of those players will undoubtedly be Frenkie de Jong, one of the captains at the club. The Dutchman has been out injured for quite some time now and it seems that his return to the pitch will not end up taking much longer as the final decision on his return is also expected shortly.

However, there have been many rumors circulating over the last several weeks when it comes to the Barcelona midfielder. Many of those reports have stated that the player has refused to undergo surgery despite the club and many doctors recommending it.

Other sources have claimed that he continues to earn an enormous salary that is weighing heavily on the club’s financial stability. Both of these are massive critiques towards the Dutchman and have understandably hurt his reputation amongst Barcelona fans.

Now, however, as pointed out by Barca Times, the player has given an interview to Barca One and has come clean about these rumors and believes that many wrong things have been said about him and his current contractual situation in terms of finances and even his injury:

“They said a lot of things about me, that I don’t want surgery and that I get paid a lot of money. There were numbers like €37M or so but the reality is very, very far from that. I’m nowhere close to earning that amount. So I understand people who are frustrated because they think I make a lot of money, I refuse surgery, I don’t train and I’m on ‘vacations’, but none of that is true.”

Ultimately, it seems that even the player has grown tired of these reports and decided to take it upon himself to clear them up. For now, Barcelona and the Dutch midfielder will remain aligned until 2026, but the 27-year-old Dutch star is someone that the club would like to revisit their agreement with.

As for now, the return of the €70 million-rated former Ajax player is fast approaching. Either against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League or against Alaves in La Liga, fans of the club can expect to see one of their captains make his long-awaited return following his injury back in April.
