Marc-Andre ter Stegen, the first captain of FC Barcelona, was one of the key figures at the pre-celebration event held at the Gran Teatre del Liceu for the club’s 125th anniversary.

The German goalkeeper, who is recovering from a serious knee injury sustained at the end of September, spoke to ‘Barça One’ just minutes before the start of the event and shared his pride in being “the captain this year.”

“It is a great honour to represent these players who play with the utmost enthusiasm. In the years when Barça was winning almost everything, everyone wanted to be a Barcelona fan,” said Ter Stegen.

“This seemed like madness to me and my family, and I always had in mind that one day I wanted to be here. We are in a different situation now, but I am very happy to have taken this step,” he added.

Regarding his recovery from the serious knee injury, Ter Stegen admitted that, although “everything is going well” and he is “in good hands,” he is currently in “a phase where everything is taking a long time.”

“I see the teammates every day and try to be with them to share moments and help them with whatever I can,” he explained.

“It excites me to see young players like Cubarsi, especially the ones from the academy. Seeing them every day. And beyond the experience, I can see there is a very good team spirit,” he added when talking about the younger players in the team.

Finally, before entering the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the German goalkeeper stated that the return to Spotify Camp Nou “is going to be very special.”
