With Ronald Araujo’s long-term future at Barcelona still up in the air, coupled with the difficulties replacing Inigo Martinez, the club are more than likely to sign a new defender.

Although Barcelona have ruled out signing a new centre-back in January, barring any unforeseen development with regard to Araujo, the club are desperate to bring in new faces in the summer of 2026.

One of the players currently on Barça’s radar is Marc Guehi, whose contract at Crystal Palace expires at the end of the season, thus making him a potential free agent.

Signing Guehi won’t be easy, though, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and even Atletico Madrid interested in the services of the English international.

Guehi prefers move to Bayern Munich

A recent report from Sky Sports Germany (h/t AS) has offered a fresh update on the future of Guehi.

The report suggests that the Crystal Palace defender has his heart set on a move to Bayern Munich, even amid interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Guehi is actively exploring all the available options, but the first club he has approached is Bayern Munich.

The Bavarian outfit are determined to sign a new defender next summer, even though the club are likely to extend the contract of Dayot Upamecano.

Guehi fits the bill well, even for Barcelona, who are looking to beef up their options in the central defensive area.

However, Barcelona would perhaps be better advised to splurge the cash on a more qualitative defender such as Nico Schlotterbeck, who is quite similar to Martinez in terms of style and can prove to be a real leader at the back.

Unlike Guehi, Schlotterbeck won’t be available for free, but could be available for a reasonable price as he will enter the final year of his contract at Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
