Barcelona chances of Julian Alvarez deal boosted by Arsenal’s Vinicius Junior pursuit

Barcelona are still hoping to sign Julian Alvarez this summer, although their chances are not looking too good right now. Atletico Madrid have made it clear that they do not want to sell to a direct rival, and to make matters worse for the Catalans, Premier League champions Arsenal have positioned themselves for a move of their own.

Arsenal are aware that Alvarez wants to join Barcelona, but they are waiting for him to open the door on a move to North London. If that happens, there is little chance of Hansi Flick getting his man, given that Atleti are very happy to do business with the Londoners, given that they are not direct competition for them.

This has meant that Barcelona’s chances of signing Alvarez have diminished significantly, although they have now been handed a boost in the last 24 hours. Arsenal are keen to sign Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior this summer, and if that happens, Sport say that it is very unlikely for Alvarez also to be brought to the Emirates Stadium.

Barcelona already considering Alvarez alternatives

Barcelona are still holding out hope that Atleti will relax their stance, although they will not wait forever. While they wait, arrangements are being made to establish a list of alternative targets, with one of them being Bournemouth’s Eli Junior Kroupi.

It remains to be seen how the situation with Alvarez plays out over the remaining weeks of the summer transfer window. It does appear that Barcelona are beginning to accept that a deal will not be possible, although Atleti may decide to relax their stance if Arsenal decide to move away from the Argentina international. For now, the Catalans continue to wait for moment, but it is clear that their patience on the matter will not be lasting forever.
