Elena Fort, Vice President of Institutional Affairs at La Liga champions Barcelona, has provided a fresh, and frankly concerning update on the club’s efforts to return to the Spotify Camp Nou.

This comes amid confirmation that there is no guarantee that the Blaugrana will be able to face Getafe at their home ground.

Barcelona of course announced this week that their plans to play the club’s first home fixture of the new campaign at the Camp Nou had been scrapped.

The Blaugrana are set to play host to Valencia this Sunday.

The matchup, though, will not be played at the Camp Nou, but instead at the Estadi Johann Cruyff. As much comes with the ongoing stadium renovations continuing to drag on for longer than expected.

And if the latest word stemming from the Blaugrana boardroom is anything to go by, then it is far from certain that Barca will be given the green light to take to the Camp Nou pitch for their 2nd home outing of the La Liga season, either.

Speaking to Catalunya Ràdio and RAC1 (as cited by Mundo Deportivo) this week, the aforementioned Elena Fort admitted:

“We have been working until the last minute to get all the paperwork done, but it hasn’t been possible. There are regulations that must be followed and safety is a priority. We hope this more bureaucratic part will be resolved next week. The work on this first phase is complete. [But] I can’t guarantee that we’ll be at the Camp Nou against Getafe (on September 21st).”
