The brass at Barcelona are keeping a watchful eye on the future of a member of the midfield ranks at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid.

That’s according to Fichajes, who highlight Pablo Barrios as the player in question.

Youngster Barrios is of course now considered one of the first names on Diego Simeone’s team sheet in Spain’s capital.

A consistent source of excellence on both sides of the ball, the 22-year-old has featured from the off in all but one of Atlético’s fixtures this season.

And along the way, his performances have evidently begun to turn heads elsewhere in the Spanish top-flight.

This comes amid confirmation of interest on the part of reigning champions Barcelona in Barrios’ services.

As per a report from Fichajes:

‘FC Barcelona has begun closely monitoring Atlético de Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios as a promising option for the near future.’

Though a Blaugrana swoop is by no means considered imminent, the Camp Nou hierarchy have earmarked the thrice-capped Spain international as a serious option to reinforce their engine room ranks down the line.
