As Barcelona prepare to host Deportivo Alaves this Saturday, Hansi Flick faces a pivotal selection decision that may dictate the outcome of this match.
Following a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, the focus has shifted to leadership, or the lack of it, within the squad.
That is where Raphinha comes into the fray. The Brazilian winger, recently returned from a hamstring injury, played over half an hour and was arguably the only player to show some passion and commitment.
As reported by SPORT, Flick is conflicted as to whether or not he should start Raphinha heading into the Alaves contest.
Raphinha’s return has been gradual, with nine minutes against Athletic Club and 30 minutes against Chelsea. But his influence is undeniable.

Last season, he contributed to a staggering 60 goals. This season, with two injury relapses restricting him to just nine appearances, his absence has left a void in Barcelona’s attack.
However, the dilemma is medical as much as it is tactical. The club are wary of Raphinha’s history of relapses, and a third setback could be catastrophic.
Complicating matters is the absence of Fermin Lopez, who has been ruled out for approximately two weeks with a fresh injury.
While Marcus Rashford has posted solid numbers since arriving on loan, his performances – in the defensive aspect – leave much to be desired.
Flick must now decide: risk his key superstar to secure a vital bounce-back victory, or trust his rotation options to navigate a tricky fixture.
