Barcelona considering second deal of the summer with RB Leipzig

Barcelona appear to be targeting the signing of a new central defender, following the recent injuries to Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia. Jonathan Tah is one of those to be linked with the Catalan giants, although he is not the only Bundesliga player to emerge as an option.

According to FootMercato (via MD), Barcelona are very interested in a move for Mohamed Simakan. The 24-year-old could leave RB Leipzig before Friday’s transfer window deadline, although despite being linked with Liverpool and Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer, nothing is advanced in regards to a possible sale.

Simakan, who would join former teammate Dani Olmo if he were to join Barcelona, is valued at €50m by Leipzig. This would make a deal almost impossible for the Catalans to pull off, given their continued financial struggles. It’s likely to mean that a cheaper option is explored, although it’s far from guaranteed that anyone arrives at all.
