There are some players who look destined to wear the FC Barcelona jersey at some point in their career. One such player is Manchester City captain Bernardo Silva. However, despite there being no shortage of interest, a move has never materialised.

The Portuguese midfielder has drifted in and out of Barcelona’s orbit for years, and now the possibility is back on the table again. With his Manchester City contract set to expire at the end of the season and no renewal agreed, Barca are once more being linked with a player the club have long admired.

According to SPORT, Barcelona are still monitoring Bernardo’s situation closely as the summer approaches. Barca have not always had the financial room to chase players of his level for a fee, but a free transfer changes the equation, even if wages and bonuses would still be a serious issue.

Bernardo is not just any experienced name either. He is still Manchester City’s captain, has remained an important player for Guardiola, and continues to offer the sort of intelligence, versatility and technical control that would naturally appeal to Barcelona.

From a Barca perspective, the attraction is obvious. He can play wide, inside or as an advanced midfielder, and he understands positional football at the highest level. For a squad that still values control and technical security, Bernardo looks like a very natural fit.

However, the Catalan club are not alone. Clubs in Saudi Arabia and Juventus are also keeping tabs on the talented 31-year-old. Silva could probably secure a much better financial package and role at one of those clubs than he could at Barcelona.

That is why this feels like an opportunity, but not yet a likely deal. There is, of course, another question that the Catalan club need to answer. Everyone knows what Bernardo can offer at his best, but does he have enough left in the tank?

It remains to be seen whether Bernardo shows any interest in a move to Barcelona and whether the club make a move for him in the coming weeks.
