Constant delays in Camp Nou’s renovation project has gravely impacted Barcelona this season, with the club losing a significant sum in the form of revenue.
But it appears the renovation delays at Camp Nou may extend into next season, with Barcelona now unsure whether or not the stadium will be ready by next season.
According to The Athletic, the club is considering asking La Liga to schedule their opening matches of the 2025/26 season away from home.
The idea is to buy more time for construction work at the Spotify Camp Nou to be completed.
The report even adds that Barcelona see September 2025 as the most realistic deadline to return to Camp Nou, which is roughly 10 months later than the club’s original plan.
Initially, they hoped to return in November 2024 to coincide with their 125th anniversary, but that has since been pushed back multiple times.

If granted, this request would not be without precedent. In 2022, Real Madrid were allowed to start their season with a run of away fixtures during the final phase of renovation works at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Even Barcelona were given some flexibility in this season’s schedule, with more home games stacked into the second half of the campaign under the assumption they’d return to Camp Nou early.
For now, Barça continue to play at the Montjuic. The club has already extended their agreement with the city council to use the venue for a second season.
However, that deal expires in May 2025 and cannot be renewed, as the stadium has been booked for concerts and other events through the summer.
The clock is ticking. Barcelona still aim to have the revamped Camp Nou fully ready by June 2026. Until then, the club may need to juggle both sporting and logistical challenges, which will start by asking La Liga for yet another favour.
