Barcelona could match unique record with a win against Rayo Vallecano – Report

FC Barcelona are not just chasing another three points against Rayo Vallecano. They are also playing for a place alongside one of the best home league runs in the club’s history, which gives this Sunday match a little more weight than a routine La Liga fixture.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Barca have already won their first 14 home league games this season, spread across the Estadi Johan Cruyff, the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys and now Spotify Camp Nou. If they beat Rayo, they will make it 15 out of 15 and equal a mark previously reached only in the 1952-53, 1958-59 and 1959-60 league campaigns.

Those earlier teams had only 15 home league matches in a season because the competition was smaller, with 16 clubs in the division. So if Flick’s Barca win on Sunday, they will have matched that perfect total in a very different era.

The current run has been relentless. Barca have won all 14 of their home league games so far, scoring 46 goals and conceding just eight in the process. That is not just good form, it is title-winning form. It is also a team that has turned its home stadium into a fortress, despite constant chopping and changing.

The wider home record is strong too. Since returning to Camp Nou with a 4-0 win over Athletic on November 22, Barca have won 13 straight home matches across all competitions, including La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

Sometimes, runs like this can be the difference between a title-winning season and one that remains elusive until the very end. The all-time record stands at 39 games across consecutive seasons, and there is still a long way to go before anyone can dream of that.

For now, all Flick’s team can do is beat Rayo Vallecano and reach the 15-game mark.
