After obtaining the first occupancy licence for phases 1A and 1B of the Spotify Camp Nou redevelopment, FC Barcelona reopened their historic stadium on 22 November with the match against Athletic Club.

Since then, Hansi Flick’s team have played two more matches, against Deportivo Alaves and Atletico Madrid.

All three games, which ended in three victories, were held before 45,000 spectators, the capacity available in the first and second tiers in the Tribuna, Lateral and South Goal stands.

Capacity increase possible for Osasuna clash

Now, the next step is to open the two tiers in the North Goal section, and according to SPORT, Barcelona do not rule out that happening before the end of the year, as everything is already prepared.

Talks with the Barcelona City Council to obtain the phase 1C licence are progressing very well, and everything now depends on the authorities.

If the licence is obtained in the coming days, something Barça consider possible, the match on 13 December against Osasuna could be played with 62,000 spectators.

If the licence is not granted, the Catalans would have to wait until the end of January, as Flick’s side will not play at home again, aside from any Copa del Rey fixtures, until the weekend of 24 to 25 January against Real Oviedo.

Once the North Goal area can be opened, the club will make more season tickets available to members.

Moreover, for that match against Oviedo, the new supporters’ chanting section, which will be renamed Grada 1957, could also be inaugurated.

The club have been working for months on the creation of the new stand, including in-person meetings with members, and it will be open to all young members who do not have a season ticket at the Spotify Camp Nou and are on the waiting list. It will have 1,247 seats.
