Barcelona decide against making additions in key area, happy with the current options

According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona have made a firm decision not to bring in any new right-back this summer.

This is because the club believes that the position is well-covered, with Jules Kounde set to continue as the first-choice starter.

Behind him, Eric Garcia has made a strong case to be the primary backup after a solid end to the 2024/25 season.

Garcia stepped up when Kounde was injured towards the end of the last season, delivering performances that convinced the coaching and sporting staff to scrap their previous plans of reinforcing the position.

Under Hansi Flick, Garcia has earned trust and is seen as one of the most reliable and versatile players in the current squad.

The German manager had also been very vocal about keeping Garcia at the club, and this season has shown why.

Then there is Hector Fort

Alongside Kounde and Garcia, young academy graduate Hector Fort is expected to remain as the third option at right-back.

Fort’s situation is being handled carefully. Much like Gerard Martin, if a good offer comes in for him, the club won’t stop his departure.

However, even in that case, Barcelona do not plan to sign a replacement, signalling a repeated strategy of working with a lean squad.

Fort, for his part, is not planning to leave at the moment. He turned down a concrete offer from Ajax during the last winter window, showing he is determined to stay and fight for minutes under Flick.

His dream is to make his official debut at the newly renovated Spotify Camp Nou next season, and the club’s latest decision gives him a real shot at achieving it.

For now, it is clear that Barcelona do not see reinforcing the right-back role a market priority.
