Although it has only been a few weeks since the end of the summer transfer window, several players in the FC Barcelona squad still have their futures at the Blaugrana club quite uncertain. This is primarily the case with the fullback Alejandro Balde.

The Spaniard has played only a measly 12 minutes in the eight games the Catalans have played so far in the new season, and it seems highly difficult for him to make a place for himself in Hansi Flick’s plans, with the German coach clearly preferring Joao Cancelo, and even the youngster Xavi Espart, over him.

In such a context, a report from Mundo Deportivo claims that the fullback could reconsider his options when the winter transfer window opens. Balde has seen his future come into question at several points in the last few years, especially during the last summer transfer window, as he was strongly linked with the Premier League side Manchester United.

However, the defender has refused to consider a move away from the club, even though Barcelona needed sales to gain FFP margin. As other players whom the club wanted sold, including the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Marc Casado, and Ronald Araujo all left the club, the fullback decided to continue at his boyhood side.

For his part, Hansi Flick is clear that the Spaniard needs to work hard, and wants him to compete with Cancelo and Espart to get back to his best level. However, as the start of this season has shown, competitive minutes will be hard to come by for him, especially as the Catalans are looking to win all the big trophies, and will not have a lot of room for error going forward into the season.

Thus, the upcoming winter transfer window will provide Alejandro Balde with another opportunity to reconsider his future, and for now, it remains to be seen whether he will end up leaving Barcelona or continue to fight for a place in Flick’s plans.
