FC Barcelona had to work their socks off to get a victory against Benfica in their last UEFA Champions League encounter, as they turned around a 3-1 scoreline at half-time to end the match with a 4-5 victory.
Raphinha and Lewandowski both contributed to this win with their braces, while the fourth goal came from a rather unexpected source, Eric Garcia. The Spaniard headed home the ball in the 86th minute to equalize the score at 4-4, which then propelled the Blaugranes to get the win in injury time.
With this headed goal, Mundo Deportivo notes that the Spanish defender continued a rather peculiar record that he has maintained throughout his professional career, i.e. scoring all his goals with a header.
The former Manchester City player has scored 8 goals in his senior professional career up to now, three of which have come with Barcelona and five with Girona.
He scored his first goal in La Liga while playing for the Blaugrana side in the 2022-23 season, scoring the last goal in a 0-3 win against Sevilla. Last season, while playing on loan with Girona, all of his five goals came in La Liga.
He returned to Barcelona last summer, and although he has not been a regular starter for Flick, he scored his first goal of the season in the Copa del Rey opener against UD Barbastro.
But the goal he scored last night was inarguably the most important one he has scored in a Blaugrana shirt, as it allowed Barcelona to complete their comeback and secure their qualification to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 without playing the playoff match while also having a League Phase match in hand.
With this vital contribution, the Catalans might decide to keep him a part of their team as previous reports indicated that they were open to selling him to raise the required funds and salary space for signing Marcus Rashford on loan.
