According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona defender Eric Garcia is a key target for their Catalan rivals Girona in the ongoing winter transfer window.
The Montilivi-based side are looking to strengthen their squad having had to deal with the demands of the UEFA Champions League campaign, and the versatile Barcelona centre-back is part of their plans.
With Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez established as regular starters under Hansi Flick, Eric Garcia’s playing time at Barcelona has been restricted this season.
Now, with Ronald Araujo returning to fitness and Andreas Christensen also expected to be back soon, things will not get any better.
Although Garcia has also been deployed as a defensive midfielder, his prospects for significant minutes remain limited.

This situation makes him a potential candidate for Girona, where he is seen as a valuable option by sporting director Quique Carcel for January.
Last season, Garcia performed at a high level while on loan for Girona from Barça. So much so that efforts were made to secure his continued presence over the summer. However, injuries to Christensen and Araujo disrupted those plans.
Girona are now prepared to make another attempt to bring Garcia back, although they anticipate significant challenges in finalising the deal.
Complications are further amplified by Barcelona’s current struggles regarding the futures of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
Girona’s approach would likely involve exploring a loan rather than a permanent transfer, which makes negotiations complex since Barcelona are focused on generating cash income.
Girona’s manager, Michel, has been open about his desire to work with Garcia again. The coach regards the defender as a strategic reinforcement for the second half of the season.
Despite the obstacles, Girona remain committed to exploring the possibility of securing the Barcelona defender’s services.
