The defender Andreas Christensen remains one of the players with the most uncertain futures at FC Barcelona as his contract runs down towards its expiry on 30 June.
The Danish centre-back has had a difficult season, largely due to a partial anterior cruciate ligament injury in his left knee that has kept him sidelined since just before Christmas.
Despite this, his intention has not changed, as he has already made it clear to the club that his priority is to continue at Barcelona.
In response, the Catalan side presented him with a renewal offer, but on significantly reduced wages. The proposal consisted of a one-year deal with an additional optional year, dependent on variables. However, according to Mundo Deportivo, Christensen has rejected this initial offer after several rounds of talks.
It is also worth noting that his current salary remains relatively high following his arrival from Chelsea on a free transfer in 2022, where a signing bonus formed a key part of his deal.
Meanwhile, the Danish defender continues to attract strong interest from clubs across the Premier League, Bundesliga, Serie A, and even La Liga, many of which are willing to offer him better financial terms.
Even so, Christensen has asked his agent to continue negotiations with Barcelona, as he remains keen to stay at the club where both he and his family feel settled.
Another important factor is that Hansi Flick holds him in high regard for his quality, versatility, and experience, although the club’s stance is clear: any renewal will only be on reduced terms.
For now, no agreement has been reached, and it remains to be seen whether both parties can find a middle ground before the defender’s current contract comes to an end.
