Robert Lewandowski’s authorised biography, “Lewandowski. The Real Deal”, written by Polish journalist Sebastian Staszewski, continues to generate waves.

Earlier excerpts revealed the surprising claim that Barcelona once asked the striker to stop scoring

Now, a new section from the book has thrust Andreas Christensen into the spotlight, detailing an incident during Barcelona’s dramatic Champions League semi-final second leg at the Giuseppe Meazza.

What’s the story?

According to Staszewski, Hansi Flick wanted to make a late tactical change to protect Barcelona’s narrow lead as Inter pushed forward with everything they had.

The idea was to bring on Christensen for Ferran Torres to add height and defensive security.

But the book states that Christensen informed the coaching staff that he was experiencing back pain at that very moment.

Giving context to Flick’s reaction, Staszewski writes that the manager struggled to fully accept the explanation. He recounts,

“Flick wasn’t convinced that the Dane was really injured, but he didn’t have time to think about it, as Inter were giving their all in the fight and every second counted.”

Staszewski goes further, highlighting Flick’s determination to keep calm despite the chaos unfolding around him. In another excerpt, he explained,

“Only Flick kept his cool. Knowing that his team would be bombarded with crosses, he decided to bring on the 187-centimetre Andreas Christensen, but he couldn’t.”

Lewandowski came on

With Christensen unavailable and the clock ticking down, Flick opted for a surprising alternative.

The only solution he saw was to introduce Lewandowski to help defend aerial balls. The move ultimately backfired, with Inter’s Francesco Acerbi scoring a last-minute equaliser in the 93rd minute.

Since these revelations became public, Christensen has faced growing scrutiny, with many debating whether the back pain he mentioned was genuine or misunderstood in the heat of such a crucial match.

Christensen’s wife has reacted

The defender has remained silent, but someone close to him has stepped forward.

His wife, Katrine Friis Christensen, addressed the controversy directly in an Instagram post. Responding sharply to the circulating claims, she wrote (h/t SPORT),

“Wow, people will write anything to get attention.”

With the Danish defender staying quiet for now, the debate surrounding the events of that night at the Giuseppe Meazza continues to intensify.
