In a season where attackers such as Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha have dominated headlines, Jules Kounde has emerged as an unsung hero of sorts for Barcelona.
Forced into a right-back role on account of a lack of a natural option in the team, the Frenchman has responded brilliantly and has become a permanent fixture in Hansi Flick’s first-team plans.
Keeping that in mind, Barcelona are keen on renewing Kounde’s contract, which expires in the summer of 2027.
A recent report from MARCA has offered a fresh update on the future of Kounde, suggesting that Barcelona, through Deco, had earlier contacted the Frenchman to gauge his intention.
To Barcelona’s fortune, the club have received a positive response from the player, who is happy at the club and wants to continue for the foreseeable.
This goes hand in hand with Barcelona’s outlook on the player, with Flick considering him a key component in his defensive unit.

It must be noted that Kounde is the only player in the team to feature in all 45 competitive matches this season.
He has shown immense commitment, which was indicated last week when the defender played the full 90 minutes of both Osasuna and Girona matches, despite coming back from the international break.
Kounde doesn’t require any rest, while the defender also holds a lot of weight in the dressing room. For this reason, Barça are more than prepared to extend the player’s contract.
The talks are still at an early stage, but Barça are extremely happy with the player’s development and commitment.
This could go a long way in fending off potential suitors, including Chelsea, who were reportedly keen on the defender’s services.
