FC Barcelona stars were away on international duty with their respective nations and, for a change, all the players who travelled to represent their countries appear to be returning to the club without suffering any physical issues.

One of the last Barcelona players to be involved in an international game was Ronald Araujo, who took the field for Uruguay against the United States, the hosts of next year’s marquee event, the FIFA World Cup 2026.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Araujo and Uruguay seem to be going nowhere with their project, as they suffered a humiliating 5–1 defeat to the United States. It was a display that was very worrying for the South American nation.

Uruguay may not be blessed with talent of the same calibre as the previous generation, but in Marcelo Bielsa they have a visionary manager. However, the players have not yet reached the level expected under the former Leeds manager.

Araujo, in particular, was exposed as the USMNT put five past them. During the third goal, the Barcelona defender was flummoxed by the attacker, who sent him the wrong way before cutting inside to score an important goal.

The 26-year-old defensive ace has been going through a difficult time over the past couple of seasons. He was showing signs of resurgence just before the November international break, but this game will have done no favours to his confidence.
