As we approach the final phase of the campaign, Barcelona are slowly thinking about the season ahead.

One of their priorities in the market is to bring in a new centre-back, with Alessandro Bastoni being the undisputed number one target.

Bastoni has a contract at Inter Milan until 2028, which is expected to pose problems for the club, especially with Inter not too keen on offloading their star player.

Bastoni eager to join Barcelona

However, a recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered some positive insights into Barcelona’s pursuit of Bastoni.

It appears the Italian international is eager to join Barça as he feels the time is right to jump ship and become a part of Hansi Flick’s unit.

Keeping that in mind, he will do everything in his power to push for a move away from Inter Milan. However, he won’t be waiting for Barcelona forever, as the player is keen on finding a resolution early.

That means the onus is on Barcelona to act swiftly. Unfortunately, given the quantum of things, including the club’s active participation in La Liga and UEFA Champions League, pushing for Bastoni’s move could prove to be difficult.

That is where sporting director Deco could play a key role. Deco wants to work quietly in the Bastoni deal, with Barcelona confident that they can get the deal done at around €55-60 million.

But as far as Bastoni is concerned, the Italian is finally ready to leave Serie A and the idea of playing for Barcelona motivates him greatly.

From a tactical perspective, he can prove to be an ideal partner for Pau Cubarsi and a long-term replacement for Inigo Martinez, given his status as a left-footed ball-playing central defender.
