Karim Adeyemi will have to wait a few more days before officially becoming a Barcelona player, with the club postponing the announcement until president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco return from the United States.

This report comes from Mundo Deportivo, who state that the official announcement of the German international’s signing will not take place this weekend as was expected previously.

Deal fully agreed

There is no concern over the transfer itself.

Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have already reached a definitive agreement worth €22 million upfront, with a further €7 million in performance-related bonuses.

The Bundesliga giants will also retain a percentage of any future capital gain from a subsequent transfer.

Having arrived in Barcelona on Wednesday, Adeyemi successfully completed his medical examination on Thursday, removing the final sporting obstacle to the move.

Announcement postponed

Barcelona had initially hoped to officially confirm the signing before the weekend, allowing the German winger to immediately begin training under Hansi Flick.

Instead, the announcement has been postponed until Laporta and Deco return from the United States.

Both club officials are attending the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium before flying back to Barcelona on Tuesday.

As a result, Adeyemi’s official unveiling is now expected to take place on Wednesday, when he will become Barcelona’s second signing of the 2026/27 season following Anthony Gordon.

Waiting to join the squad

Until the transfer is formally announced, Adeyemi cannot train at Barcelona’s facilities, although he did visit Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper on Friday, where he briefly met with his new teammates and Flick.

To maintain his fitness, the 24-year-old is continuing his preparations independently by training in the gym at his hotel while awaiting the official confirmation.

Once the official announcement is made, he is expected to immediately join Flick’s pre-season preparations as Barcelona continue building their squad for the new campaign.

The forward will add plenty of speed and dynamism to the Barcelona frontline, while also increasing the bench strength as the La Liga champions hope to take another step forward under Flick and conquer Europe this season.
