FC Barcelona’s sporting department is hard at work to secure the contract renewals of players considered key in the sporting project by Hansi Flick.
After tying down players like Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde to long-term deals, the focus has shifted to securing the extensions of Frenkie de Jong and Eric Garcia – both of whom are in the final year of their respective contracts.
To that end, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona sporting director Deco held a key meeting with Ivan de la Pena, the agent of Eric Garcia, on Monday to discuss the renewal of the centre-back.
With a release clause set at €400 million, the Spaniard’s current deal runs until next summer, and securing his continuity has become a priority operation for Barça.
After all, Eric has become a key player under Hansi Flick this season, establishing himself as a regular starter, be it at right-back or centre-back, and churning out solid displays in either role.

As such, Garcia is firmly in Barcelona’s plans for the future and to that end, Deco met with his agent to make progress on renewal talks. The meeting focused on the terms of an extension with the clear will of both parties to continue together.
Eric’s versatility – able to play at right-back, centre-back, and even in midfield – is seen as an asset for the team. Meanwhile, the player feels motivated and valued again at the club under Flick.
Talks with De la Pena will continue over the coming weeks with the aim of reaching an agreement to secure Garcia’s renewal soon.
It must be noted that De la Pena also happens to represent teenage prodigy Pedro Fernandez ‘Dro’ and talks over a new deal for him were also held during the meeting yesterday.
