Barcelona’s influence on the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been impossible to ignore, and no two players have embodied that impact more than Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi.

As Spain prepare to face Argentina in the World Cup final, the teenage duo is not only chasing football’s biggest prize but also a place in the tournament’s record books.

Both youngsters have become integral figures in Luis de la Fuente’s side despite their age, explaining why they are regarded as two of the brightest talents to emerge from La Masia in recent years.

Indeed, a victory in the final would cap an extraordinary tournament for Spain, but simply taking to the field would already mark a historic milestone for both players.

Yamal closing in on one of the greatest World Cup records

At just 19 years and six days old, Yamal is set to become the third-youngest player ever to appear in a FIFA World Cup final.

Only Pele and Giuseppe Bergomi reached that stage at a younger age, placing the Barcelona winger alongside two of the most iconic names in football history.

The Barcelona forward’s remarkable tournament has attracted enormous attention, particularly because many expected him to dominate the attacking statistics.

While his return of one goal and no assists may appear modest, the numbers tell only part of the story.

Throughout Spain’s run to the final, the Barcelona forward has remained one of the team’s primary creative outlets.

His movement, ability to eliminate defenders in one-on-one situations and constant threat in transition have stretched opposition defences and created space for teammates, even when those contributions have not directly resulted in goals or assists.

Cubarsi emerges as Spain’s defensive revelation

If Yamal has impressed in attack, Cubarsi has established himself as one of the tournament’s standout defenders.

The Barcelona centre-back has formed an outstanding partnership with Aymeric Laporte, a player who continues to be linked with a move to Camp Nou

Together, they have anchored the Spanish defence that has recorded six clean sheets in seven World Cup matches, an achievement unmatched in the nation’s history.

On that note, at 19 years and 178 days, Cubarsi is set to become the fourth-youngest player to feature in a World Cup final, surpassing Kylian Mbappe on the all-time list.
