The successful 2024/25 campaign of FC Barcelona continues to make headlines. Under Hansi Flick, the Catalans delivered a scintillating brand of football on their way to securing the domestic treble, and it is only natural that several of their standout performers have drawn global acclaim.

According to Mundo Deportivo, two Barcelona stars have been named in the 2025 FIFPro Men’s World XI: Lamine Yamal and Pedri Gonzalez. The team, voted for by professional footballers across the globe, recognises the best performers from the previous season.

In a team comprising four PSG players, given that they won everything last season, Barcelona also have representation. Donnarumma (now at Man City), Hakimi, Mendes, Vitinha and Dembele ensure the Parisian giants are well represented.

Real Madrid also feature, with both Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappe making the XI. Perhaps surprisingly, the Frenchman finds a spot ahead of Barcelona star Raphinha, who had a season for the ages and won silverware, whereas Mbappe went trophyless.

Cole Palmer rounds off the midfield, while Virgil van Dijk is Liverpool’s only representative. Raphinha’s generational 2024/25 run is extremely under-recognised, and the FIFPro XI is further evidence of the same.

Lamine and Pedri fully warrant their places in the team. The duo were playing at a different level throughout 2024/25, but injuries have hampered their progress so far this campaign.

Regardless, such awards are more eye candy than anything else, and the hope is that Barcelona lift silverware where it matters and return to their best sooner rather than later. Let’s wait and see how things play out.
