The future of Joan Garcia has been a subject of discussion in recent weeks, especially within the Barcelona circle.

After a breakthrough spell at Espanyol, the goalkeeper is widely expected to join a bigger club this summer, with Barcelona emerging as one of the potential destinations.

Despite the social aspect associated with an Espanyol player joining Barcelona, the Catalans remain determined in their bid to sign the young goalkeeper this summer.

Barcelona best-placed to sign Garcia

Now, a report from Mundo Deportivo has offered an update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Joan Garcia this summer.

As per the report, the Blaugrana have emerged as the frontrunner in the race to sign the Espanyol starlet.

This is a big development given the fact that recent reports have linked Garcia with a move to Newcastle United. Yesterday, a local Espanyol journalist even guaranteed Garcia’s move to NUFC.

However, it appears Garcia and his family are greatly valuing the efforts Barcelona are making, simply to convince him to make the move to Camp Nou this coming summer.

As a result, Barça’s chances of signing Garcia may see a slight uptick, although it must be noted that this is the first real report siding with Barcelona so far in his transfer saga, at least in recent days.

There is still a substantial chance Garcia might want to settle for a move to the Premier League, although it appears Newcastle have shifted focus elsewhere for now.

Barcelona, for their part, will patiently wait for Joan Garcia’s decision. Once they receive the approval from the player, the club are expected to move ahead and meet his release clause, which is valued at around €25 million.
