Barcelona enter race for Rodri as they contact his camp to hijack Real Madrid’s move for the Man City and Spain superstar | OneFootball

Barcelona have made contact with Rodri’s representatives as the Spanish champions bid to rival Real Madrid for the midfielder.

Rodri is open to leavingManchester City this summer after seven seasons at the Etihad, and has discussed his desire for a return to La Liga.

Real Madrid have been in talks with Manchester City for several weeks, but are yet to reach an agreement with thePremier League side. The Cityzens remain relaxed about Rodri's future, despite the 30-year-old having less than a year on his contract with the club.

According toFabrizio Romano, Manchester City believed other clubs would rival Real Madrid for the Spaniard's signature, and Barcelona have now initiated a move. Both clubs are reportedly willing to pay a similar fee to sign the World Cup-winning captain this summer.

Rodri had given preference to Real Madrid and suggested he'd be open to a move to the Bernabeu earlier this year. However, Barcelona are now bidding to beat their arch-rivals to the midfielder, opening up the race.

Rodri was named winner of the Golden Ball at the 2026 World Cup this summer, as Spain secured a second world title in North America.

His decorated career has now included World Cup, European Championship, and UEFA Nations League success with the national team, alongside 13 trophies with Manchester City.
