FC Barcelona are closing in on one of the sporting department’s biggest bets for the future, with Jesse Bisiwu expected to arrive in the city in the coming days.

Bisiwu’s refusal to renew his contract, which was due to expire in 2027, weakened the Belgian club’s negotiating position and helped Barca advance an operation they had been working on since last year.

The initial plan is for Bisiwu to join Barca Atletic under Juliano Belletti, but his pathway will not be limited to the reserve team.

The youngster is expected to spend time around the first-team environment from the beginning, with the possibility of even joining Hansi Flick’s pre-season camp in England if everything is completed quickly enough.

That is an important detail. Barcelona are not spending €10 million on Bisiwu simply to strengthen the B team. The idea is clearly to prepare him for a future first-team role while allowing Flick to decide how quickly that step should come.

Barca are betting heavily on upside

Bisiwu is described as a quick, direct and fearless winger who constantly looks to attack defenders one-on-one.

At 1.86 metres, he also offers a powerful stride and a physical profile that makes him different from many traditional academy wingers.

His last season was disrupted by injuries and his decision not to renew with Brugge, but his performances at youth international level kept Barcelona convinced of his potential.

From a Barca perspective, this is a significant investment in potential rather than immediate certainty.

Deco has clearly backed the talent, and the club have also benefited from the player’s strong desire to join Barcelona.

Now the important part begins. If Bisiwu adapts quickly and Flick likes what he sees, his stay with Barca Atletic may not last long. For €10 million, Barcelona are clearly hoping they have secured a player whose value and role could grow rapidly.
