Barcelona explored Serhou Guirassy before dismissing summer move

With only one week left in the summer transfer window, FC Barcelona are yet to address a notable shortcoming in their squad, that of a natural first-team center-forward. The Blaugranes clearly showed that this absence is not really a weakness for a team, as they won their first game of the season, against Elche, with a 5-0 scoreline, but Hansi Flick would still want to have a replacement for Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres.

As has been the case throughout this summer, the Catalans see the Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez as their top target for this position. However, the Colchoneros have fiercely resisted their advances, and continue to refuse to negotiate a transfer with them.

With time not really on their side, Barcelona have also worked on signing some alternatives in recent days, and players like Lautaro Martinez and Nicolo Tresoldi have been linked with them. Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo cites the German outlet Bild to report that Deco had also talked to Borussia Dortmund to inquire about Serhou Guirassy.

However, the forward’s high salary, of around €10 million, led the Catalans to dismiss him as a possible candidate, even though they are one of the seven European clubs for whom his release clause is lowered to €50 million. This transfer fee could have been lowered even further as Hector Fort is close to moving to Borussia Dortmund, and his transfer fee could have been subtracted from the forward’s fee.

Having joined from Stuttgart in 2024, the Guinean striker has continued to impress in the Bundesliga. Last season, he scored 22 goals and provided 6 assists in 46 appearances for the black and yellow team. Thus, he could have been a very good addition to this Barcelona team, as he would have brought in some guaranteed goals, but his high wages eliminate him as a possible option for the Blaugranes.
