Barcelona expressing fresh interest in Sporting star | OneFootball

The board at La Liga giants Barcelona are keeping a close eye on the situation of Iván Fresneda in Portugal, with a view to a potential future bid for the defender.

The situation at right-back at the Spotify Camp Nou is considered to be somewhat up in the air as things stand. With Jules Koundé out of favour, and João Cancelo being utilised on the left, Eric García has been entrusted with starting duties.

The fact remains, though, that Eric is a central defender by trade. Amid ongoing speculation surrounding a potential Koundé exit, it should therefore come as little surprise to hear of Deco and co. keeping a close eye on the right-back market.

And as alluded to above, amid this ongoing scouring of the continent, one name has recently returned to the forefront of the chatter in the boardroom in Catalunya’s capital.

As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing Portuguese outlet O Jogo:

‘Iván Fresneda is once again on Barcelona’s radar. The Sporting CP right-back is on the list of potential signings for the Catalan club’s sporting management.’

Fresneda, recently called up to the Spanish senior squad by Luis de la Fuente, was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona prior to taking his talents to Lisbon from Real Valladolid back in 2023.
