According to SPORT, it has come to light that Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga fixture against Elche on November 2 will be played at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic.

The news ends days of speculation about whether the club might be ready to return to the Spotify Camp Nou earlier than expected.

As a result, the club hopes to make their long-awaited comeback at their newly renovated home either against Athletic Bilbao on November 22 or Alaves on the weekend of November 29–30.

However, the reality is that certain stages of the stadium’s construction remain incomplete, forcing Barcelona to stay at Montjuïc a little longer.

Patience as Camp Nou awaits full readiness

While fans are eager to see their team back at Camp Nou, the club believes it is not yet practical to do so.

Even though Barça already hold the First Occupation Building License for Phase 1A, this stage would only allow 26,000 spectators inside the ground.

For that reason, the club has decided to wait until Phase 1B is finished, which would make it possible to open the Lateral section along with the Tribuna and Gol Sud stands.

Although the plan to remain at Montjuic was an open secret, Barcelona’s recent ticket announcement for the Elche match made it official.

To almost no one’s surprise, the game will once again be held on the “Magic Mountain.”

What happens next?

The club’s next opportunity to open the new Camp Nou will come on matchday 13 against Athletic Club.

The game is already scheduled for November 22, but the final venue has not yet been confirmed.

Barça hope to secure the occupation license for Phase 1B in time, which would allow a crowd of up to 45,501 fans – a capacity similar to Montjuïc.

Until that approval comes through, Hansi Flick’s men will continue to call Montjuïc home, with the club prioritising safety, comfort, and readiness over haste.
