This came after Anthony Gordon conjured up a fine individual performance on his starting debut in Blaugrana colours.

Hansi Flick’s troops marked their return to action a short time ago, welcoming Athletic Club to Catalunya’s capital for a La Liga Gameweek 2 matchup. When all was said and done, the evening’s hosts kept alive their perfect start to the campaign, courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 triumph.

The aforementioned Gordon for his part featured from the off, rewarded for his stellar debut off the bench on opening day against Elche with a first Barca start.

And though the England international did not manage to directly contribute to either of the Blaugrana’s goals, his impact was very much felt. Sharp, precise in his actions and always full of intent, Gordon provided another glimpse into precisely what he is set to add to Hansi Flick’s frontline this season.

Upon Gordon’s number flashing across the fourth official’s board, signifying the end of his evening, Barca’s supporters rose to their feet as one to afford the 25-year-old a standing ovation.
