Supporters of La Liga champions Barcelona managed to take one positive note away from their side’s disappointing result on Sunday night.

This came in the form of the showing of summer signing Joan García.

Barcelona were of course back in action yesterday evening, making the trip to Rayo Vallecano for their final outing before the upcoming international break.

The Blaugrana headed into the matchup boasting a perfect record of two wins from two to open the defence of their title.

When all was said and done in Madrid, however, Hansi Flick’s troops were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

This came after Lamine Yamal’s opener was cancelled out decisively by Fran Pérez midway through the 2nd-half.

As much means that Barca now trail arch rivals Real Madrid by two points in the race for Spanish top-flight supremacy.

And yet, as alluded to above, widespread sections of the club’s fanbase nevertheless managed to take solace in one fact – that Joan García is the goalkeeper to lead the Catalans forward.

Summer signing Joan was responsible for a number of world-class saves at Vallecas, on his way to Man of the Match honours.

Had it not been for the 24-year-old’s excellence, Barcelona would likely have been facing up to a first defeat of the term, rather than just a point.

The club’s supporters, in turn, were quick to lavish praise on Joan post-match, with the shot-stopper having been widely labelled the ‘signing of the summer’:
