FC Barcelona secured an important La Liga victory over CA Osasuna at the Spotify Camp Nou, taking all three points despite facing an opponent that appeared content to settle for a draw.

While the result itself strengthened Barça’s position at the top of the table, the home crowd also found another way to enjoy the evening.

Following Raphinha’s opening goal, a section of the Barcelona faithful turned their attention toward Real Madrid with a pointed chant of “Xabi, stay.”

As reported by Mundo Deportivo, the message was aimed directly at Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso, who is currently under significant pressure amid growing uncertainty surrounding his future at the club.

The timing was no coincidence. With Madrid set to face Alaves later tonight, there is a growing belief inside the Spanish capital that defeat could lead to Alonso’s dismissal, potentially within hours, just five months after the start of his project last July.

The chant carried an added layer of symbolism. In April 2024, during the second Clasico of the 2023/24 La Liga season at the Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid supporters had repeatedly sung “Xavi, stay” in reference to Xavi Hernández, who was enduring a turbulent period on the Barça bench. Madrid went on to win that match 3-2, a result that all but sealed the league title and amplified the mockery.

Although Xavi had announced months earlier that he would step down at the end of the season, he later reversed his decision and was publicly backed by club president Joan Laporta, only to be dismissed not long after. That sequence of events left a lingering bitterness among the Barcelona faithful.

Now the tables appear to have turned, and Barça fans decided it was time to give Real Madrid a taste of their own medicine, highlighting Madrid’s current instability as they trail by 7 points in the league, albeit with a game in hand.
