Arriving in Barcelona at just eleven years old, Fermín López climbed every rung of the ladder at La Masia, the club’s renowned academy. Yet, his path was anything but straightforward.

Three years ago, the midfielder was loaned out to Linares, competing in Spain’s third division. At that point, he thought his adventure with Barça was over. “When I was loaned out, I thought it was the end. But by playing, I changed the way I saw things,” he told RAC1.

Fermín also recalls his tough beginnings at La Masia:

The first day was the worst of my life. I cried a lot, it was the first time I’d left home. But my teammates, like Xavi Simons, helped me a lot.

This summer, Chelsea showed interest in him, but leaving was never on his mind.

I’ve always been a Barça fan, I had no intention of leaving.

Finally, he put an end to rumors of a rift with Gavi:

We’ve known each other since we were 13. There’s no problem at all—he’s one of my best friends in the dressing room.
