According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona are planning to secure the future of teenage prodigy Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez in the coming weeks.
The young midfielder is seen as one of the most exciting prospects coming through La Masia and has been in the first-team dynamics since the pre-season in the summer.
Set to turn 18 years old in a few days on 12 January, Barcelona are now ready to tie down Dro’s long-term future at the club.
Dro’s current contract runs until 2027, and Barça’s intention is to follow the same pathway they applied with players such as Lamine Yamal and Pau Cubarsi, renewing and upgrading their deals as soon as they were of legal age.
With this move, the Blaugrana want to reinforce their commitment to La Masia and protect themselves from potential interest from other clubs tracking Dro’s development.

The decision is not based solely on his performances so far, but also reflects the strong belief the coaching staff have in his medium- and long-term potential.
So far this season, Dro has played 148 minutes across five matches, with one start to his name. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has seen minutes in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League as well.
At Barcelona, they particularly value Dro’s competitive maturity despite his young age.
As such, inside the club offices, the renewal operation for the teenager is seen as a strategic step: securing continuity of a special talent, showing trust in the player and sending a clear message to the market.
