Marcus Rashford will be one of the players who will be getting his first experience of playing in an El Clasico today, as he is likely to start on the right wing for FC Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Madrid.
There is no doubt that this will be a unique experience for the Englishman, as he has never faced the Merengues in his career before. However, he has still faced some of their players, and as Mundo Deportivo has noted, one such player with whom he has some unsettled accounts is the goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Rashford has played against Courtois several times, both with his clubs teams and the English national team, but is yet to win a game against him.
The two players faced off four times when the Belgian was playing for Chelsea and the Englishman for Manchester United. Their first meeting came in the 2017-18 season, with Chelsea winning 4-0 at Stamford Bridge. Later in the same season, the Blues again defeated the Red Devils 1-0 in the FA Cup. United won the second league match that season, but Courtois was not playing because of injury.
Events repeated themselves in the following season, with Chelsea winning the league duel at Stamford Bridge and in the FA Cup. United won the second duel at Old Trafford, but this time, Rashford remained on the bench.
The two players also faced off twice in the World Cup 2018 in Russia. The first of these meetings came in the group stage, where Belgium 1-0, and the second came in the third-place match, with the Belgians again winning 2-0, and Courtois consoled Rashford after the loss as well.
Now, with both players once again playing in one of the most exciting games in world football, it remains to be seen whether Marcus Rashford would be able to score for Barcelona past Thibaut Courtois.
