Barcelona saw their €30 million buy option for Marcus Rashford expire last month, which significantly complicated the forward’s future at the club.
According to Nil Sola, Barcelona failed to activate the agreed-upon clause with Manchester United within the March deadline.
As a result, the original terms of the deal are no longer valid, which means both clubs will go back to the negotiating table under entirely new conditions.
The previous agreement required Barcelona to formally communicate their decision during March.
With that window now closed, the fixed €30 million structure has disappeared, although a future deal around a similar figure is not completely ruled out.
This development creates a fresh scenario, as Manchester United are now free to reassess Rashford’s valuation based on form and market demand, while Barcelona are attempting to use the player’s preference to remain as leverage in negotiations.

Despite that, the Blaugrana are not prepared to enter a bidding war, as the club’s priority is to renegotiate the terms and lower the overall cost.
Internally, there is also no full consensus on whether Rashford should be retained, with the journalist stating that he is ‘more out than in’.
Earlier, it was claimed that Barcelona had reached an agreement with the player regarding a three-year deal, but the club later decided to look for younger alternatives such as Victor Munoz and Andreas Schjelderup.
One option Barcelona explored was extending his stay through another loan deal.
However, Manchester United are not open to that solution, making it a difficult path to pursue.
At this stage, a continuation appears unlikely. With no agreement in place and both clubs holding different positions, his performances in the coming weeks will be decisive in determining Rashford’s next move.
