Ansu Fati’s much-discussed move to AS Monaco is no longer moving as smoothly as it once seemed.
According to a recent report from SPORT, the negotiations have hit several roadblocks, particularly around the structure of the deal and who will pay how much of the player’s salary.
The Spanish forward has been linked with Monaco for several weeks now. While those close to Ansu insist that the deal is nearing completion, the mood in Monaco is starting to shift.
Patience is running thin, even with head coach Adi Hutter, who is said to have warned the club’s management that he expects clarity soon.
Hutter has told the club he wants reinforcements in place before the team begins pre-season training on June 28. Otherwise, he is open to exploring other players on the market.

The main issue is financial. Both Barcelona and Monaco are still negotiating key parts of the agreement, which has gone through several changes, from a possible permanent transfer to a loan with a buy option.
One of the biggest sticking points is Ansu’s high salary. Despite Monaco enjoying favourable tax conditions, the club is unwilling to take on the full cost of the player’s wages.
Earlier talks involved a €12 million transfer fee with a €20 million option to buy. However, as progress stalls, a loan deal now looks more likely.
Still, the matter of Ansu’s salary remains unresolved. Barcelona believe Monaco can afford to cover most of it, while Monaco’s current offer doesn’t even reach 50% of the amount.
Ansu himself is also expected to lower his financial demands if the move is to go through.
For now, both clubs remain at the negotiating table, but Monaco’s patience won’t last forever. With pre-season fast approaching, the pressure is on to either finalise the deal or move on.
