Not many expected Jules Kounde to grow into his role as a right-back at Barcelona in the spectacular manner that he has managed to.
He may not be the best in the world in his position, but to even be in that debate, having been a centre-back all his life, is a testament to his adaptation.
Such has been Kounde’s growth that Barcelona no longer see the signing of a new right-back to be an urgent need, as they back the Frenchman to serve as a regular starter for next season.
Eric Garcia’s rise as a reasonable backup only furthered their stance.
Despite these developments, Barcelona were linked with some potential targets in the right-back department, including Vanderson and Marc Pubill, both of whom are seen as highly talented young players in the department.

As related by Mundo Deportivo in a recent report, however, both Vanderson and Pubill have now emerged as serious targets for AC Milan as they look to revamp their fullback department. The latter, in fact, has emerged as a bigger target given his lower price tag.
Vanderson, the 24-year-old Brazilian right-back, currently plays for Monaco and is a more experienced option, although that experience comes at a premium that Monaco demand.
Pubill, meanwhile, currently renders his services for Almeria and was the player more openly linked with Barcelona, given that he is available for a fee of just around €15 million.
Barcelona, for their part, do see the full-back position to be one in need of a new signing, but will only pursue it should their finances permit the signing and if the other positions higher in need of signings, are dealt with.
Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries has appeared as a target for the club to pursue, but it now appears unlikely given the deadline on his €25 million clause and the Catalans’ tricky financial situation.
