As we near the end of the year, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is one name that is expected to become prominent within the Barcelona camp.

The German international, after all, is inching closer to returning to full fitness and has recently surprised everyone by posting a picture of himself training, with Joan Garcia in the background.

Latest update on ter Stegen’s fitness

A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered key updates on ter Stegen’s fitness as he looks to return to action sooner rather than later.

As per the report, the goalkeeper is now in the final phase of his recovery from the lumbar surgery he underwent in July.

While he has been training alone with goalkeeping coach Jose Ramon de la Fuente for weeks, the plan is now accelerating.

Ter Stegen is expected to rejoin group training within the next two weeks. If everything goes according to plan, he should receive the medical green light before the end of 2025.

His recent social media post, captioned “It’s great to be back with the team,” confirms that he is already reintegrating with the squad dynamics.

However, his return creates a massive dilemma for Hansi Flick. The manager has made it clear that Joan Garcia is his current number one, and the young Spaniard has performed admirably.

This leaves Ter Stegen in a difficult position. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, the veteran knows he needs regular minutes to secure a starting spot for Germany. If Flick cannot guarantee playing time, a January exit could be on the table.

Ter Stegen has no shortage of suitors either, with recent reports linking him with a move to Turkish club Besiktas.
